Tom is an illustrator with an unhealthy fondness for cartoon characters and those little pencils you steal from Ikea. He favours surreal and quirky situations, or amusing and unusual creatures as subject for his work. Tom draws most of his inspiration from everyday experiences, particular favourites being people falling over or awkward moments of eye contact with strangers…
Most of Tom’s work is drawn by hand, then vectorised and coloured in Illustrator. Sometimes textures or shading are added in Photoshop. His favourite sketching tools are an A5 Moleskine, a variety of black pens and enough Ikea pencils that you rarely have to sharpen one. Every now and then Tom will also experiment with acrylic paints, homemade sock toys and creating boardgames.
Tom graduated from the University for Creative Arts in 2006 and has since designed t-shirts, created characters for animation, illustrated magazines and children’s books and has possibly designed more pin badges than anyone in the world. His clients include MTV, The Sundance Channel, News International, Johnny Cupcakes and Danbury Mint. His work has featured in various publications, including Pictoplasma’s Character Encyclopaedia, Televisual, Daydream and the Computer Arts Graduate Showcase.
